Maid of Honor Speech Outline - Be Prepared!

Being the Maid or Matron of Honor is an immense responsibility, and one that should not be taken lightly. One of the most important duties a Maid of Honor can look forward to is her speech (often referred to as a toast) during the reception. The following are some key components of any Maid of Honor speech.

1- Introductions

Introduce yourself individually, and then in terms of how you and the bride know each other. It is important here to not make light of your relationship, but neither is it appropriate to spend several minutes trying to convince everyone in the room that you are the greatest friends of all time. Everyone knows that the bride has chosen you for her maid of honor, so clearly you are good friends. Just a short synopsis of how you met, how you became friends, and how long you've known each other will do.

* A note - Some Maid's of Honor choose to formally welcome the guests and to thank them for coming, though traditionally, this is done by the Father of the Bride. But really, the choice is yours. If you choose to do so, put this somewhere at the very beginning of your speech.

2- Tell a Story

At this point, you'll want to give your audience a little story that involves you and the bride. This can be a funny story or a heartfelt story. But what it absolutely must not be is embarrassing. Do not say anything that would offend your audience, or anything that the bride would not want the people invited to her wedding to hear.

3- Tell Their Story

Now comes the time to tell your audience how the bride and groom met one another. It is important to remember that the audience does not need to hear every single detail of their meeting and courtship, but rather simply the most important highlights. This is also a good time to address the groom. You may do so by telling him to keep good care of your friend, by telling him what a lucky man he is in getting to have your best friend for a wife, or you can simply offer him some words of advice about how to be a good husband to your friend. Keep it light, and keep it loving.

4- Mention the Day

Take your audience back to a particularly beautiful point in the ceremony. For instance, the beautiful chuppah that the bride's father built for her, the heartfelt vows that the bride and groom exchanged, or the way the bride looked as she walked down the aisle.

5- The Toast

Finally, bring it home with the toast. Raise your glass to the couple and toast to their prosperity, their enduring love and happiness, etc. Whatever you choose, make it sincere and specific to the couple.

Hopefully, this gets you on your feet to preparing a speech to give at the wedding. However, if you would like to see some sample speeches, jokes, and quotes please visit the link below.
